PROFILE OF LAS PIñAS |
||
|
Las Piñas City has gone a long way from being a salt-making town to a highly urbanized city, a proud but
traditional home to hundreds of thousands of Las Piñeros. Other cities do not offer the same ambiance
Las Piñas does. It is a community that has been regaled as the CLEANEST AND GREENEST CITY IN METRO MANILA for
three consecutive years, making it in the Hall of Fame of the DILG-NCR sponsored honor. This achievement led to the GLOBAL 500 ROLL OF HONOUR of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) on June 05 2000. This is in recognition of the outstanding practical achievements in the protection and improvement of the environment. Las Piñas was also adjudged as the "MOST PEACEFUL " community in Metro Manila in recognition of its very low crime rate and high rate of crime solution achieved by the local police force. The municipality of Las Pinas is one of the nine cities and eight municipalities comprising the Metropolitan Manila or the National Capital Region (NCR). It is bounded on the north and northeast by the Municipality of Paranaque; on the east and southeast by the City of Muntinlupa; on the south by the Municipality of Imus Cavite; on the southwest and west by the Municipality of Bacoor, Cavite; and on the northwest by the scenic Manila Bay. Half of its land area is already developed for residential purposes and the remaining half portion is used for commercial, industrial and institutional areas.The present physiography of Las Pinas consists of three (3) zones, namely: Manila Bay, Coastal Margin and Guadalupe Plateau. Las Pinas has a total land area of 41.54 sq. kms.It is subdivided into twenty political units called barangays: Just like the rest of the towns and cities comprising Metro Manila, Las Pinas has two distinct seasons; the dry season which covers the months of November to April and the wet season from May to October.
